15. Akute – Walls

This post is also available in German Polish Czech Belarusian

Walls divide, which often hurts people. But walls can also encounter a territory or a room and give people a feeling of safety and privacy. Walls very often make people curious about what’s going on behind them. But we’re not here to give a phenomenology of walls, thus listen yourself, what’s behind the walls today.

Akute is familiar to MAK-listeners as we presented their song Run (Бегчы) last year (Link). Their typical sound cannot be overheard. In their self-description it is “decadent disco”, and with this kind of alternative rock music they conquered the Belarusian audience from the start in 2008. Founded in Mogiljow, the three artists prove how vivid cultural life is also out of the capital Minsk. They produced two albums so far, composed film music and could be seen on stage with the well-known Placebo.

Eventually, that’s why Akute had to be part of the musical advent calendar this year as well. The video on Walls has just been published in October 2014 and, no matter how grey its emotional tone, one might be inspired to think about the topicality and the nature of walls, which fell 25 years ago as a Eastern and Central European experience.

We wish all of you a happy third week of advent!

Walls

It’s hard to rescue
A little bit more
Forgive me, it’s so hard for me to rescue all this
And to ruin it again

These walls
Will grow
Don’t leave me
Don’t leave
There is no way of creeping out of hell
Don’t leave me
Don’t leave

Say my name
And we will dance
Forgive me, it’s so hard for me to feel all this
Even to see it at all

These walls
Will grow
Don’t leave me
Don’t leave
There is no way of creeping out of hell
Don’t leave me
Don’t leave

These walls
Will grow
Don’t leave me
Don’t leave
There is no way of creeping out of hell
Don’t leave me
Don’t leave
