When The Notwist have been our guests at the first musical adventcalender in 2009 https://gfpsfreiburg.wordpress.com/2010/01/06/gfps-hitparade/ with Pick Up the Phone, the musicians were already quite well known internationally. Even today, the band might be one of Bavaria’s biggest export hits. It was founded by the Acher Brothers (Markus Acher, voice and guitar/ Micha Acher, bass) in 1989 and is rooted in the elaborate, nevertheless brute (post-) hardcore. The expansion of the band’s musical spectrum by electronic sounds has been brought along by Martin Gretschmann, who is a band member since 1997. He’s from Weilheim as well.
Kong is the third piece of “Close to the Glass”, which has been released in 2014 as The Notwists eighth album. Once again, the long production time that The Notwist consecrate for their albums is recognisable throughout the fascinating and diversified collection of 12 compositions.
Comparably, Kong is a relatively straight and catchy pop-song, which takes us – together with the animation of Yu Sato – on an exciting and diverse four-minute trip into the pretty maverick world of The Notwist.

Kong
There’s something wrong with this
Don’t be alarmed
Water’s coming in
Water’s coming in
Our house will fall
A paper wall
Mighty Kong please help
I know you’re strong
Are you coming in
Are you coming in
To lift us up, to lift us up from this
When I was 9 years old
The sun was always far too cold
And the rain it wouldn’t stop
And when the water filled the room
Our house got swept away
Mighty Kong please help
I know you’re strong
Are you coming in
Are you coming in
To drop us off on another spot
It’s bliss
Cause I believe in this
(Superheroes, ghosts, villains and stuff)
I believe in this
