19. Kafka Band – Grave

This post is also available in German Polish Czech Belarusian

The Kafka Band is part of the comic project “Das Schloss“ (“The Castle“) which unites literature, fine arts and music. Center of the project is the comic adaption of Kafka’s incomplete novel “The Castle”, created by US-American cartoonist David Zane Mairowitz and Czech artist Jaromir99.

One part of the band are the author Jaroslav Rudiš and Jaromir99, two popular artists that already became internationally famous with the graphic novel “Alois Nebel” a few years ago. Moreover some other well-known musicians take part in the project, such as members of the bands Priessnitz, Umakart, Tata Bojs and Lesní zvěř.

Inspired by the story of land surveyor K., the band succeeds in creating a matching melancholic audio-atmosphere for the rather triste black-and-white graphic novel „The Castle“. The songs are half lectures, half rock music, and, in a very intelligent way, play with the historic origin of the novel in teh Czech-German cultural scene of Prague.

Grave

I’m dreaming of
Being with you
Without interruption
On earth
There is no space
For our love
Not in the village
Not anywhere else.

Deep in the earth / around us only death / the living won’t find us.
Hluboko pod zemí / Kolem jen mrtví jsou / Živí nás nenajdou.

I’m imagining a grave
Deep and tight
We hold each other
My face next to yours
Yours next to mine
Nobody will ever see us
On earth there is no space
For our love.

Deep in the earth / around us only death / the living won’t find us.
Hluboko pod zemí / Kolem jen mrtví jsou / Živí nás nenajdou.
