22. Korben Dallas – A Run

This post is also available in German Polish Czech Belarusian

Korben Dallas are a Slovak band from Bratislava. Not the most famous one (yet?) but they are slowly getting more recognition from music critics (they won quite a few awards, including the best concert band) as well as from their fans. That is probably due to their pleasing music with poetic lyrics.

Named after the protagonist of the film “Fifth Element” (1997), the group was formed in 2010. Their debut album, “Pekné cesty” (“Nice Trip”, 2010), which is basically a recording of a live session, was nominated for the Radio_Head Album of the Year. Today’s musical goody “Beh” (“A Run”), however, is from Korben Dallas’ second album “Karnevalová vrana” (“Carnival crow”, 2013) for which the band won prizes like crazy, top chart positions included.

A Run

Darkness in front of me and nothing behind,
I’ve run since the morning, I can’t make a turn,
Again the same mistakes, the same day,
In the water the body of a fish doesn’t throw a shadow.

Darkness in front of me and behind me, too,
I run the whole day and I want to be away already,
I don’t want to leave the footprints behind anymore,
And every glass I want to finish completely,
Smooth over the furrows, clean the wounds.

Darkness in front of me and nothing behind,
I’ve run since the morning, I can’t make a turn,
I am leaving the city, the angular gardens and houses.
The road is getting narrower, with fallen trees.

Darkness in front of me and behind me, too,
I run the whole day and I want to be away already,
Fields in front of me, the open landscape,
Space without memory, without borders and without a name.

I am running and I don’t know, don’t know, don’t know, don’t know.

I am running and I don’t know, don’t know, don’t know, don’t know.

The hoofs of animals will stomp new paths,
They will show me who to leave and where to go,
They are mute and shy, I look for their footprints,
The glass is full and I can’t finish it by myself.

Darkness in front of me and nothing behind,
I’ve run since the morning, I can’t make a turn,
Again the same mistakes, the same day,
In the water the body of a fish doesn’t throw a shadow.

I am running and I don’t know, don’t know, don’t know, don’t know where.
