4.12. Kofelgschroa – Hotel Kovèl

The „Kofel“ is the local mountain of the Bavarian region Oberammergau and “Gschroa” means “yelling” in Bavarian. Because of the fact that many Germans cannot understand the Bavarian dialect, these witty musicians include their translations in the delivery. The mentioned Hotel Kovèl does really exist, by the way. It is mainly a meeting point for musicians, but also fun for nature lovers. With this slightly different folklore music we wish you a happy 2nd Advent!…

6.12. Taco Hemingway – Deszcz na betonie

Although young MC Taco Hemingway (real name Filip Szcześniak, born 1990 in Cairo) was first discovered on Youtube and in English in 2013, he is today more than just an insiders’ tip. Last year he was awarded the Fryderyk Prize for the best hip-hop album. Today’s clip was the first single from his album “Marmur” (marble), released on November 2nd 2016. In his typical staccato style he prefers rapping about his life using sometimes surprising metaphors. With this goodie we wish you a nice train ride during which you hopefully eat your St. Nicholas chocolates!…

8.12. NEO MAGAZIN ROYALE mit Jan Böhmermann – Spring for Frauke

Since his “Schmähgedicht” (taunting poem) and the following diplomatic disgruntlement between Germany and Turkey, Jan Böhmermann is known beyond Germany’s borders. An old companion, who also defended him in the accompanying debates in the media, is Serdar Somuncu. In his various roles as author, political satirist or musician he lays it on the line.
In the following musical performance from Böhermann’s show NEO MAGAZIN ROYALE from March 2016, all similarities between the situation in Germany in 1932 and a certain German political party are purely coincidental.

16.12. Beginner – Es war einmal

One of THE breaking news of 2016 in German popular music was the comeback of Jan Philipp Eißfeldt (alias Jan Delay), Dennis Lisk (alias Denyo) and Guido Weiß (alias DJ Mad) as “Beginner”. After 13 years on solo paths, the two rappers and the DJ from Hamburg revived their old band. Their song “Es war einmal” (Once upon a time…) showcases their own history since the beginning of the 1990s – a success story, which is presented here by prominent representatives from all over German television. A new chapter of German rap begins……

18.12. Jazzpospolita – Topniejący śnieg (Live)

Once again we have a mix of musical styles in one song. This band, present on stage since 2009, mixes jazz, post-rock and electronic elements. We presented Jazzpospolita, who with their name hint at Poland’s long jazz tradition, already in the musical advent calendar of 2011. Today’s goodie is “Melting Snow”, a very special live performance at the festival “Jazz w Ruinach” (Jazz in Ruins) in Silesian Gliwice. Enjoy this 8-minute dive into Jazzpospolita’s sound.…

21.12. Maria Peszek – Samotny tata

Maria Peszek’s album „Karabin“, published in spring 2016, is a controversial, partly very political piece about radicalization in Polish society and became a top seller very quickly. ”Samotny Tata” tells the story about a single and lonely – the Polish word “samotny” means both – father and his daughter Ala (Alexandra). Including Eryk Lubos, one of the most interesting contemporary Polish character actors, this video was in our opinion a highlight of 2016.…

23.12. Faber – Alles Gute

There are a few music videos that go under your skin. When I watched the video for the first time, it blew my mind and, still today, I have a hard time describing all the feelings that it provokes in me. Singer-songwriter Faber hails from Zurich and today’s goodie is both title of the song and album, the latter of which he crowdfunded. Since then, this record is not only being celebrated by Sophie Hunger. One day to go ’til Christmas – we wish you all the best!…
